Asia Cup 2023: On Monday (August 21), the announcement of the Indian squad for the Asia Cup 2023 was made by the BCCI. In the 17-member Indian team, T20 International’s number one batsman, Suryakumar Yadav, also found a place. Surya’s inclusion in the squad left former Australian player and former Sunrisers Hyderabad coach Tom Moody quite surprised. Tom Moody called Surya lucky.

Surya’s participation in ODIs has been a big question from the beginning. Suryakumar Yadav, who has shown aggressive skills in T20 Internationals, hasn’t had much success in the ODI format. Surya has played 26 ODIs so far, scoring only 511 runs in 24 innings at an average of 24.33. He has scored two half-centuries during this period.

Speaking about the Indian team, Tom Moody said on ‘Star Sports,’ “I think the player Suryakumar Yadav is very lucky to be in that team. I know he’s a player we all love to watch, but he still has to master the 50-over game. I think he has played 20 matches and is still in the early stages of his return.”

Tom Moody continued, “He’s a genius in T20 cricket, but 50-over cricket is a completely different format, and he hasn’t cracked the code for it yet. You know, I don’t think he will do it at the last minute.”

Tom Moody also discussed which players could have been chosen in Surya’s place. Moody said, “And for me, there are several better options. I, in fact, prefer to see young players like Yashasvi Jaiswal in the team. I would play a wrist spinner in that position. You know another wrist spinner.”
